Jail Ministry Coordinator
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Covington, is accepting qualified candidates for a Jail Ministry Coordinator. The position is 40% FTE (16 hours a week, including some evenings).
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field. Experience in pastoral ministry is preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of community resources in Northern Kentucky
- Ability to network and coordinate activities with community partners dedicated to working with prisoners, ex-offenders, and their families.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
- Strong work ethic, excellent with details, a self-starter, and adherence to boundaries.
- Good problem solver and listener.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
- Must have the ability to remain calm and composed under stress.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Travel to detention centers and parishes within the Diocese.
Responsibilities of Jail Ministry Coordinator, 40% FTE
- Develop and maintain resources (Bibles, scripture, readings, eyeglasses, study material) that address the needs of the incarcerated, the newly released, and their families.
- Provide a diocesan framework for recruiting, certifying, and training volunteers to participate in jail/prison ministry.
- Maintain programmatic quality and quantity assurance measures.
- Participate in the Northern Kentucky Reentry Team.
- Coordinate and lead the jail ministry advisory committee; engage with members to support jail ministry volunteers.
- Monitor and provide support to the family of incarcerated groups.
- Mentor and provide support and materials to the Ministry Night groups.
- Support and participate in advocacy activities that help ex-offenders succeed.
- Support and/or teach MRT classes at local detention centers.
- Communicate with Catholic Charities volunteer Coordinator regarding status of Virtus standing.
- Monitor and communicate with ministry volunteers including but not limited to their initial and renewal applications with the jails, scheduling, and routine communications
- Monitor and communicate with jails including but not limited to initial and renewal applications.
- Maintain records and databases including volunteer applications, volunteer hours worked at each prison and number of prisoners seen.
- Recruit and retain volunteers for each prison.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, create goals and objectives for the ministry.
- Research and implement best practices from other similar ministries around the country.
- Organize and lead regularly scheduled meetings (in person or virtual) by prison or for all volunteers for purpose of socializing, discuss experiences, learn/train and reflect
